Infections have been rising over the last week but the trend cannot be described as ‘soaring’. To do so, goes beyond informing the public to demoralising and scaring them. We need folk to be vigilant and disciplined. Panic is not helpful. The Ayrshire Post today:
In this time of pandemic, on a day when 28 died, you’d expect a popular local newspaper columnist to be clear, accurate and informative, working to help maximise compliance with a government strategy, designed to save lives. None of it. In a rambling piece, unhelpfully titled ‘Nightmare curfew set to last longer‘, the ironically namedContinue reading “Bob shields the UK Government and undermines the strategy saving lives”
Fury as 300 Prestwick job losses only makes bottom of page 8! Why on earth is this not front page? A Conservative MP has suggested, jaw-droppingly, that the 300 jobs at Prestwick Airport, should be tossed aside. These are the jobs that have been protected by the SNP Government since October 2013. Local Conservative MSPContinue reading “SNP fights to save 300 Prestwick jobs from Conservative cuts!”
The Ayrshire Post asks two opposition MSPs about the threat to jobs in hospitality, due to the pandemic. Both are careful to tell us that they know lives come first but that they are ‘concerned’, even ‘particularly concerned.’ Both then demand that the Scottish Government provide financial support, forgetting conveniently that only the UK GovernmentContinue reading “Opposition MSPs get it easy in the Post”
The SNP Government saved Prestwick Airport and hundreds of jobs in 2013. The UK Conservative Government would have let it go bust then and would do so again if it were up to them, but local Conservative MSP John Scott says he’s had ‘direct discussions with the cabinet secretary‘ so he gets his photo onContinue reading “Local Conservatives can do nothing for airport”
Time for change? Well, indeed. Last week, the Ayrshire Post reported irresponsibly, support for a campaign by a handful of protestors, to open-up care homes to dangerous levels of visits by relatives: https://ayrnewsincontext.wordpress.com/2020/10/02/local-tory-msp-supports-campaign-that-risks-return-of-mass-deaths-in-care-homes/ Today, the Post, uses one, one, drug addict’s experience to argue for change and to base that on ignorance of the factsContinue reading “Report of Local Conservative MSP’s drugs intervention is inaccurate”
In this week’s Ayrshire Post: ‘Booze licence approved for pub.’ I’m shocked. Why didn’t they apply to…….sell electrical goods, pet food, weapons, sex aids…..? What they have? All of them? Just ask for Chic? It was a nice wee report. You’ll see that everybody is a winner. The Stag opens soon, well, in two orContinue reading “No shit, Sherlock?”
South Ayrshire has the lowest average level of daily infections in the group subject to the strictest measures, including shutting bars, outlined by the First Minister yesterday. See these: South Ayrshire 50.6 per 100 000 Stirling 61.6 Midlothian 70.3 East Ayrshire 86.9 North Ayrshire 88.3 All of the others have even higher levels, up toContinue reading “Should South Ayrshire be in the Covid-19 Central Belt group for stricter measures?”
Ayr MSP, John Scott, has allied himself with a campaign group, Care Home Relatives Scotland, to push for more open access to care homes for the elderly. Needless to say, within the Ayrshire Post report, the Health Secretary contradicts the claims of both Scott and the group, but you’d never know that from the aboveContinue reading “Does local Conservative MSP support campaign that risks return of mass deaths in care homes?”
For more than a year now, our sister blog, The Tusker, has been reporting on English ‘county-lines‘ drug gangs bringing misery to Scottish towns. Typically, these gangs, often armed and hardened by gang warfare in London or Liverpool, arrive in low-crime towns, befriend local vulnerable youths and move into their homes, using them as aContinue reading “English drug gangs spreading misery across Scotland reach South Ayrshire”
